Electric Pickups
Disclaimer : Ranger Owner Information
This is my Hobby ..........  to be clear ..........  I DO NOT repair other owners Rangers ...
I do not work on other ranger owners vehicles ......................
These Rangers are not converted or conversion Rangers , these are OEM which means
they were built by FORD motor corp. as electric purpose built trucks ........
I do not take gas rangers and turn them into electric rangers , again these were built as
electric pickups by ford motor company , the vin# will prove they were and always were electric only , no internal combustion engines were ever in these ...........  check your vin# if you have
any question as to whether they were built as electric or not ....................................

I have not converted anything in these vehicles , I put new batteries in them and that is all ...

I just want that to be very clear that I have done these for family and close friends only ...

If you want your ranger repaired there is a great place called blueskymotors in california and

battery md in california that are licensed and do all the repairs you will ever need on these

great trucks ............  I have just bought some  new batteries put  them in and sold them again

with all the original parts I do not repair these vehicles ..................  thanks

The above picture will take you to the Private pages with my ranger work ....
These are designated for ranger owners and are only files we share with each other for the complete use as our hobby ......................

FORD RANGER EV'S
I have removed most of the battery conversions and generator charging and manzanita charging information so as that people do not think that I actually convert these vehicles , I have just brought these back up to the specs of the factory and installed new batteries ... you can see from the one that I have posted that I actually am now using 100% ford parts (original EV), updating the rangers to the latest 12 volt systems that were built and then adding new batteries that are available replacing the old unavailable batteries ....................................
Keep it green ................................

I have been working on perfecting the manzanitamicro LLC charger for using with the Ranger, I like this charger because you get to control the trim for the voltage of your pack , you get to set the current (amps) while charging so you get to do your own ideas of equalizing the pack, you even get to set the length of time you want to hold it at the charging voltage once it reaches that point of voltage you really like to use ...... this has some great features for using with pretty much any type of battery technology ....... you can even add regulators in the future if you want to become completely hands free charging ................  There is some real plus sides to this charger and one kind of down side to it that you should change if you use it for generator charging ..........
There is a great plus to this charger that right now is unbeatable and that is the fact that you can use this charger with 110 volts or 220 volts or you can use it with an onboard generator !!!
I have done all three and they all work providing you dont go overboard on charging while driving down the road .............................

OK, here is the important part, if you use a generator with a charger there is a couple of things you really need to know ...........................................
First off the GENERATOR AND THE CHARGER MUST BE ISOLATED ........ neither unit can touch the ground of the chassis ...........  IF either one touches ground you will be sending your charger back for repairs .................

YES, I DID THIS ............  that is how I know, an expensive learning lesson ..................

Be sure there is a good solid rubber mat under your generator ..... make sure when you tie it down you do not use cables or chains, use nylon tie downs or insulated cables to attach it when tying it down ......................

Be sure you use UHMW or some other plastic to mount the charger in the ranger, again a small rubber seperator is worth its weight to make sure you do not short out your investment .....

#2 very important Item ............  the Manzanita Micro LLC charger has a 4 prong connector attached to it ........ I do not know why !!!  if you look inside of the charger the neutral wire is not used !!   , I have also found out the hard way that if you hook up the neutral wire on your extension cable from the generator it will fire back through the ground since the neutral is hot in the generator ....... when it does it will burn out the power supply in the manzanita charger in extremely short order ..............

I recommend you find a reputable electrician and have him cut the end off and put the proper 3 prong 30 amp connector on it to match your generator ........... if your generator is like mine and uses a 4 prong 30 amp twist lock connector make sure you use a 3 wire cable or use a 4 wire cable and cut off the white wire on both ends of the cable .........  when using the generator you only use the ground wire and the (2) 110 volt legs to make up your 220 volt supply .......

Contact a reputable electrician and he will set it all up for you ......................

I have contacted and have ordered a New Zivan charger for testing with the generator, they only allow you to order the charger as a 110 volt or as a 220 volt unit, you do not get both as with the manzanita, but they have a new charging algorithm that they have specifically designed for use with a on board generator so I will be testing it as soon as I receive it ..................

  Keep it green ............................
THE LEGAL STUFF:
I HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS DO TO THE JOB............. ABSOLUTELY UNDER
NO CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO WORK ON ANY VEHICLE, GAS, PROPANE,
DIESEL, ELECTRIC OR ANY OTHER FUEL RAN VEHICLE WITHOUT THE
PROPER TOOLS AND THE PROPER TRAINING........
A PENCIL IS DANGEROUS IN THE WRONG HANDS...  IF YOU STICK YOUR
HAND IN A FAN, OR A FIRE OR CONTACT THE HIGH VOLTAGE OF A ELECTRIC
VEHICLE YOU WILL BE HURT OR WILL BE KILLED .......................

IF YOUR CAR OR YOUR VACCUM CLEANER IS BROKEN TAKE IT TO A
QUALIFIED REPAIR  STATION TO HAVE IT FIXED ..........................

NOW THEN THIS IS THE REPAIRS I DID TO MY PERSONAL VEHICLE ..........................
this is my personal ranger , I am updating the wiring to the newest NIMH pack wiring as it is a true 12 volt system ............  I am installing the DEKA INTIMIDATOR batteries they are a true AGM battery , maybe not as strong as the odyssey 12 volt battery but a lot less expensive ....and still a 100 AH battery even if they do not last as long as the odyssey battery it will be a good test of the battery ......................................

updates
so as to not bore everyone , I flash updated the BCM module to a NIMH from the lead acid model, I purchased brand new NIMH ranger cables and IOM module assy and 2 brand new fans for the pack ...........  these are all the original NIMH ranger parts I am puttting in I purchased them direct from my local ford dealership ............................ I also flash updated to the latest version the TIM assy ..........  I have done all this because that is the very last model that ford made ...........
This is the back of the ranger pack installing the DEKA batteries ............. pretty good fit ... with the contactor box setting in the middle ....................

Here is the front of the pack with the IOM and BCM computer assy. tied in and ready to go ...

This is the custom made case for the blower for more air flow then the original box had , this is still the original fans in both the center fan and the flo through fan from the NIMH rangers ..
below is the picture of the flow through fan assy ..................................

bottom pack all finished up and ready to go .........  hooked up the connectors and now on to the upper pack .....................

This did not take even 30 minutes , bolted the upper box in with the existing bed bolts and then set in the last 7 batteries and hooked them all up, easy and quick .............................

All finished up ............  let down the jack and lets get ready to drive !!

Hooked up the charger and to have a final test of the charging algorithm to make sure it is not going to hurt the batteries ............  the charging went up to the exact setting they asked that the batteries to be charged at , up to 90% charge it ran between 9.91 amps and 14.46 amps at 365 volts then it shut down and reset itself to 2.92 amps and 388 volts , for the last 10% of the charge I am going to assume this is to help equalize the pack without overcharging the batteries .....
but just to be sure I sent an email to the company and asked for the tech people to let me know if that is an ok charging algorithm or not .........................................

There you have it finishing the charge and I will start driving it .......  I assume from the readings that I am getting from the batteries that after the pack is fully broke in the ranger should get somewhere between 40 and 50 miles to the charge ...........................

Have a wonderful green year !!!

I have removed all of the other rangers that I had posted on the site as I do not want people to think I actually deal in these vehicles , as stated before these are my hobby of repairing these and getting them back running , these are fords original electric EV vehicles .....  Enjoy them if you can before they are completely worn out and no longer available .........

I enjoy mine , almost 2 years of oil free driving to and from work and to the shopping markets .

Most people drive less then 30 miles a day , but that in a 20 mile to the gallon vehicle is a gallon and a 1/2 of gas a day .......  thats 45 to 50 gallons a month just to go to work and home ... at todays $4 a gallon thats over $180 to $200 a month ........  that is a definite payment for a vehicle, thats $2400 a year , in 10 years that is $24,000  .....  I paid less then that for my electric ranger ... that means in 10 years I will have completely paid for my vehicle and from then on it will be paying me $200 a month , great idea !!

Free electricity !!
In california they have charging stations pretty much everywhere so you can charge up your electric vehicle for free, a lot of electric vehicle owners there do not even own a charger because they are everywhere ..........  here in oregon we do not have that luxury ....... but I charge at my business and all business's in the United States get to write of the cost of utilities so it is free to them to allow you to charge up ........  plus I am sure if they allowed you to charge free you would shop at their business .....................................

In oregon we have the choice of actually buying 100% pollution free wind power ...........

Of course in oregon we have had pollution free hydro power for a long , long time ...

we also have geothermal on the oregon california line .............................
